COV-19 and telehealth

At this difficult time around the world for everyone we are doing our best to keep our valued clients, therapists and families and friends safe.

 

We have reopened our clinics and re-started home visits with strict prototocols in place to protect our valued clients and therapists. 

We are continuing working in residential aged care facilities (with protections in place).

 We also offer Telehealth Services for those unable or who do not wish to attend a therapist in person. 

 Telehealth digital technology is readily available on your computer or phone to receive treatment from our physio. It is safe and effective, and our physios are trained to deliver telehealth consultations.

 

Our Telehealth consultations will continue to deliver the same outstanding level of care as our in-clinic services, where our experienced clinicians will provide a tailored treatment plan to help reach their health goals.
In the current climate, clients may not be able to attend our clinics due to an illness, or simply may be self-isolating during the current Coronavirus pandemic.


Telehealth is also a great alternative for those who may find it difficult to access high-quality physiotherapy services:
• People in rural areas
• Those with very busy work or family lives


Telehealth is easy to use! You will book your appointment as normal and if you would like telehealth we will send you a link you can open from your browser. Simple! No need to download software etc just click the link you will be emailed/texted to your mobile phone.

What is telehealth exactly?

 

Glad you asked! 

Telehealth software systems allows us to care for you through live video consultations. Just like in your clinic, we can perform examinations, recommend treatments, and offer follow-up care—all through a secure, high-quality video and audio connection.

We can treat you from anywhere—you’re no longer limited by location, time zones, or travel restrictions. Do you need to stay home? Are you or do you know an elderly client with mobility challenges? Or, someone who lives far away in a rural area? No problem! You can have an effective treatment session through your computer, tablet, or mobile device.

Is it secure?

We use a secure allied health system called cliniko for all our one to one therapist/client consultations. All video calls are secured with end-to-end encryption and meet the same strict privacy and security standards as other Cliniko features. You can rest easy knowing your consultations are kept between just you and your therapist.

The sessions are not recorded however written notes are securely kept in your client records. You can read more about how we store data securely on the privacy section on our website.

Cliniko keeps your records safe, and all of our features are designed to meet the data protection regulations of Australian Privacy PrinciplesGDPR, and HIPAA.

 

Is it effective?  

Karen Finnin an online only physio who advises the Australian Physiotherapy Association and us on telemedicine argues it can be MORE effective than onsite consultations for many conditions. Many GPS and specialists used telemedicine extensively even before the Corona Virus, and now many clinics ONLY accept telehealth appointments.

Sessions can still be very effective because we can see you in your home environment, and use education and exercise therapy predominantly to help you. Technology has come a long way making these sessions more effective utilising the power of effective assessment and treatment techniques developed specifically for telehealth. Research shows has significantly better long term results for your health than hands on therapy alone. Other research has shown up to 80% of conditions traditionally seen by a Physiotherapist can be just as effectively, or more effectively seen using telehealth vs an onsite only consultation.

Are there conditions you can't see with telehealth?

Our clinical co-ordinator screens all assessments before they are booked in to ensure that you have a condition which can be treated effectively with telemedicine.

Some conditions do benefit more from hands on therapy ie needing mobilisation of joints, electrotherapy, sciatic and nerve pain assessment and treatment (esp acute) or chest physiotherapy in some cases. The vast majority of conditions can be very effectively managed with telehealth however.

If you have any concerns that telehealth is not right for you we encourage you to chat (no obligation/cost) with our admin team beforehand and we will work out with you . If during a session a therapist feels that telehealth may not be the right option for you they will tell you this and help make alternative arrangements where possible.

What do I need to use telehealth?

You should though have
1/ A reliable internet connection
2/ A reliable CHARGED device ie Iphone/Ipad/Laptop. If you have more than 1 good to have the other one powered on so you can use if needed.
3/ An up to date browser ie IOS, chrome, internet explorer etc. Google how to update your browser if not sure.

 

What do I do if during the consultation the internet connection doesn't work?

If for any reason you can't see your therapist they will call you and conduct the rest of the consultation on the phone

What if I don't have internet/a device to use online telehealth?

You can do the session using a landline or mobile without using video if this is the case. Your therapist can mail exercises and educational material to you as needed. If possible it is better to use a device and internet and is worth discussing with friends and family who may be able to help you set this up.


How do I book for telehealth?

To book you will need to call our 1300 574 462 or email info@alliedagedcare.com.au

Our friendly admin team will explain the process to you and will take your details for our clinical co-ordinator to review and make sure telehealth is appropriate for you.

Once approved the admin team will then send you the following to complete


1/ To have completed your client contact information (this can be emailed, texted or mailed to you). 
2/ Paid your holding deposit 
3/ We can then go ahead and book your consultation and you will be emailed instructions and a time to attend like a normal consultation 

What will it cost? Am I covered by Medicare/Health fund/Workcover/DVA/other organisation?

If you have a care plan through medicare or a DVA (D904) referral from your GP we can bulk bill physiotherapy and OT sessions -currently this is only temporary from 31st March to 30th September 2020 although this may change. You should check with medicare if unsure about your eligibility.

Workcover we require approval from your case manager

Other organisations and private health you should check if they cover telehealth.

For all private clients and those not covered by organisations our telehealth charge is $50 for a 30 minute consultation (including paperwork and followup exercises/educational material/contacting your GP/referrer)
